Sustaining International Sisters October!

Happy Birthday SIS! Happy 1st Anniversary!

Sustaining International Sisters (SIS) & InterPlay Atlanta celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday, October 5th from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. In Metro-Atlanta, we are a community of women from around the world connecting, sharing, and inspiring one another through “play and potluck.”

1st Anniversary Agenda:

10:00 AM – Noon   InterPlay Workshop

Noon – 1:00 PM    Cultural Food Share (Potluck)

1:00 – 3:00 PM      Cultural Dances and Activities

Beginning one year ago, Canan Arikan (from Turkey, and InterPlay Leader-in-Training) and Ruth Schowalter (from the U.S. and a certified InterPlay Leader) gave birth to their dream of bringing together women seeking asylum in the U.S., those international women visiting or resettling in the U.S., and American citizens. They believed that through meal sharing and InterPlay, an active creative way to unlock the wisdom of the body, they could invite women to build bridges across cultural, faith, and language differences and have fun doing it!

One year later, SIS is thriving! In an ever-changing world on the first Saturday of every month, women from various countries such as Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Jamaica, Japan, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Mexico, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States come together for 3 hours of connection.

Thanks to InterPlay co-founders Phil Porter and Cynthia Winton-Henry. Deep appreciation to the First Christian Church of Decatur who is so welcoming to SIS as we use their bright sunny social hall each month. We are also grateful to InterPlay Atlanta, our 501c3 non-profit, that uses improvisational structured play to foster freedom and play, decrease stress and build just communities.

We are so thankful that so many sisters joined us to celebrate the community we have built together of international and American women. Happy Birthday SIS! Happy Birthday Sisters!
